Inside North Korea

The Central Broadcasting Station emphasized (June 8), “The maintenance of our own style of socialism and victory in the military-first revolution are unthinkable without first resolving the issue of provisions. The agricultural frontline at this point in time is one of the most critical frontlines in the confrontation with the US and in safeguarding socialism.”

The Central Broadcasting Station reported (June 12), “Kim Jeong-il, accompanied by Kim Yeong-chun, chief of the general staff of the KPA, Kim Il-cheol, minister of the People’s Armed Forces, Kim Tae-guk and Kim Gi-nam, secretaries of the Workers’ Party of Korea, and servicemen of the KPA, enjoyed a newly created light comedy entitled Life at the KPA’s April 25 Film Studio.” (specific date unreported)

Outside North Korea

The Pyongyang Broadcasting Service reported (June 6), “The economic delegation of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea, headed by Minister of Foreign Trade Lim Gyeong-man, left Pyongyang on June 6 for Uganda, Kenya, Guinea, Mali and Yemen.”

The Pyongyang Broadcasting Service asserted (June 7), “Now that we (the DPRK) have become the rightful possessor of a nuclear arsenal, the six-party talks must become an arena for arms reduction talks in which participating nations resolve the issues at hand from an equal footing and status.”

A spokesperson for the North Korean Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in an interview with the Joseon Central News Agency on June 8, “The issue of resumption of the six-party talks depends entirely on how the United States responds to our (the DPRK’s) demands for the conditions and environment necessary for the resumption of the talks.”

Inter-Korean Issues

The Pyongyang Broadcasting Service commented (June 7), “The marking of one million visitors to Mt. Geumgang is a victory of unification and patriotism forces over disruptive and treacherous ones. We (the DPRK) further economic cooperation projects, including the Mt. Geumgang tourism project, under the banner of the June 15 Joint Declaration.”

The Central Broadcasting Station propagandized (June 9), “With the June 15 Grand Festival of National Reunification just around the corner, we have reached the final stages of preparations for a variety of events and facilities, including the National Grand March, the Opening Ceremony, evening parties, and the National Reunification Contest.”

The Pyongyang Broadcasting Service (June 11) reported, “On the occasion of the 5th anniversary of the announcement of the June 15 North-South Joint Declaration, the North Korean Stamp Corporation has issued commemorative stamps (one small-sized sheet and one bundle sheet).”
