Inside North Korea
Kim Jeong-il inspected Units 2040, 720, 2183, 2015 and 4313 of the Korean People’s Army (KPA) and emphasized the bolstering of military training and combat strength.
A national meeting was held at the April 25 House of Culture to celebrate the 73rd anniversary of the Korean People’s Army. Kim Yeong-chun, chief of the General Staff of the KPA delivered a report at the meeting. Attending the meeting were senior officials of the Party, army and state, servicemen of the KPA, and officials and workers from relevant sectors.
Outside North Korea
A spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs released a statement (April 20), condemning the adoption of the “North Korean Human Rights Resolution” by the UN Commission on Human Rights as “moves of hostile forces to isolate and stifle North Korea.” The statement further declared, “If the human rights issue continues to be misused as leverage for hostile anti-DPRK campaign, we [DPRK] will respond with decisive measures.”
The Central Broadcasting Station declared (April 21), “The reactionary forces in Japan must admit the truth behind the incident of manipulating the results of the examination of the remains of the Japanese abductee before they face greater humiliation. Those behind the plot must be brought to justice and the remains should be sent back in its original state.”
Inter-Korean Issues
Regarding the 45th anniversary of the April 19 popular uprising in South Korea, the Democratic Front for the Reunification of the Fatherland and the DPRK’s Committee for the Peaceful Reunification of the Fatherland issued a declaration (April 18), propagandizing, “All political parties, groups and classes in South Korea should mobilize and rise to action in resisting the United States in order to bring the forceful US military occupation and its colonial rule to an end.”
The naval command of DPRK issued a report (April 18), claiming, “The military authorities of South Korea are deliberately raising tension by infiltrating combat warships into North Korean waters in the West Sea.” It went on to say, “Such actions could result in dire results.”
