Korean Central News Agency of DPRK via Korea News Service (KNS)
Pyongyang, December 23 (KCNA) - Supreme Commander of the Korean People's Army Kim Jong Il, general secretary of the Workers' Party of Korea and chairman of the National Defence Commission of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea, gave field guidance to the new pig pedigree farm and meat cold storage built by servicepersons of the KPA. The first leg of his guidance was the pig pedigree farm.
The farm occupying an area of more than 30,000 square meters is a modern stock-breeding center furnished with the latest equipment. He was briefed on the farm before a huge painting showing the panoramic view of the farm.
Going round the exterior and interior of the farm built at the foot of a hill, he acquainted himself in detail with its construction, management and operation and expressed great satisfaction over the servicepersons' successful construction of the modern farm.
He highly appreciated the feats performed by them, noting that another precious edifice of eternal value conducive to the prosperity and development of the country has appeared thanks to their devoted labor.
He dropped in at the breeding houses to learn in detail about the characteristic features of breeding boars of various stock and their breeding methods. He appreciated the efforts made by the employees of the farm, pleased to know that they are sending a lot of young pigs with high productivity to different places.
He set forth tasks to be fulfilled by the farm to manage and operate it, saying that the farm is of very weighty importance in developing the nation's stock-breeding under a long-term plan.
What is most important for increasing the production of pork is to breed pigs of superior stock which grow fast while consuming less feed to suit the climatic conditions of the country, he said, underscoring the need to pay primary attention to implementing the WPK's policy of bringing about a radical turn in raising animal breeds to find a satisfactory solution to this problem.
Noting that it is necessary to thoroughly establish a system of preserving pedigree stock in order to increase the production of quality young pigs, he underlined the need to place the breeding on a scientific basis.
Stock-breeding can be successful only when it is put on a high scientific basis as it calls for meeting high bio-engineering requirements, he said, underlining the need to wage a vigorous drive to raise the level of technical skill of the workers and technicians while energetically pushing forward the work to apply advanced technology.
In order to keep the production of livestock products going at a high rate it is important to properly conduct the veterinary and anti-epizootic work, he said, underscoring the need for the pig pedigree farm and other farms to have sufficient anti-epizootic facilities and establish a strict anti-epizootic system. He said the farm should take thorough-going measures for feed supply in order to boost the production of young pigs and indicated tasks to be carried out to do so and ways for their implementation.
The construction of the modern pig pedigree farm has provided a solid foundation for radically increasing the production of pork, he noted, calling on all fields and units to raise pigs in a big way. The next leg of his guidance was the new meat cold storage built by servicepersons of the KPA.
This is a modern efficient and economical cooling establishment capable of safely storing meat for a long period, while requiring less electricity and materials.
After being briefed on the mechanism of the cold storage and the principle of its operation, he looked round its interior to learn about its construction and management.
The cold storage built on the basis of a good idea and design is an economical cooling establishment which can be built with ease in any place, he noted, underlining the need to build more cold storages of this type.
Saying that it is socialism of Korean style to protect and meet the wishes and interests of the people, he called on all officials of society to earnestly learn from the spirit of devoted service to the people displayed by the servicepersons of the KPA.
He was accompanied by Pak Pong Ju, premier of the DPRK Cabinet, KPA Vice Marshal Kim Yong Chun, member of the NDC of the DPRK and chief of the KPA General Staff, KPA Vice Marshal Kim Il Chol, member of the NDC and minister of the People's Armed Forces, KPA Generals Ri Myong Su, Hyon Chol Hae and Pak Jae Gyong and Hwang Pyong So, vice department director of the WPK Central Committee.
