Functions of Youths and Students of DPRK Held

    Pyongyang, December 23 (KCNA) -- A meeting of youths and students was held at the Central Youth Hall on Dec. 22 to celebrate the 14th anniversary of leader Kim Jong Il's assumption of office as supreme commander of the Korean People's Army. At the meeting a report by Kim Kyong Ho, first secretary of the Central Committee of the Kim Il Sung Socialist Youth League, was followed by speeches. The reporter and speakers said that holding Kim Jong Il at the top post of the revolutionary armed forces marked a historic event of weighty significance in the future development of the revolution and the accomplishment of the human cause of independence and it was the greatest fortune for the army and people of the DPRK.
    Recalling that Kim Jong Il has put forward the People's Army as the main force of the revolution and strengthened and developed it to be invincible revolutionary armed forces strong in ideology and faith, they said that he has shown warm care for the young people so that they might glorify their worthy life with arms.
    They called upon all the young people to become Songun revolutionary comrades who staunchly safeguard the great Songun leadership exploits of Kim Jong Il and share destiny with him to the last and genuine vanguard fighters who devotedly defend the leader, protect the headquarters of the revolution politically and ideologically at the cost of their lives.
    That day, a combined performance of winners of the art contests among primary organizations of the youth league from across the country was given at the Central Youth Hall on the above-said occasion and on the occasion of the 88th birth anniversary of anti-Japanese war hero Kim Jong Suk. Present at the functions were Kim Jung Rin, secretary of the Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea, officials of the youth league and youths and students in Pyongyang.
