Internal Affairs

Chairman Kim Jong-il inspected the army unit 667, according to the Central Broadcasting Station on Dec. 10 and gave on-site guidance to a factory in Yeongnam and workshops which were newly built in the Ryongseong Food factory, according to the Central Broadcasting Station on December 14.

The discussion meeting on the 20th anniversary of the publication of Kim Jong-il’s arduous works titled ‘the Way to Strengthen the Union of Agricultural Working People’ was held at the Grand People’s Study Hall on Dec. 12, according to the Central Broadcasting Station on Dec. 13.

North Korea publicized Chairman Kim Jong-il’s Seongun (military-first) Policy as the best policy under the condition that imperialism is strengthened, according to the Pyongyang Broadcasting Station on Dec. 12.

Inter-Korean Affairs

The 17th Inter-Korean Ministerial Talks were held in Jeju Island from Dec. 13 to 16.

The third video reunion was held from Dec. 8 to 9. A total of 151 South Koreans from 40 families were reunited with their 104 North Korean separated family members while 133 North Korean met their 173 South Korean family members, according to the Central Broadcasting Station on Dec. 10.

The joint event preparation committee from the South, the North and Overseas for the implementation of the June 15 Joint Declaration was held in Shenyang from Dec. 9 to10 and renamed as the national joint committee for the implementation of the June 15 Joint Declaration. At the meeting, the related regulations were adopted, according to the Central Broadcasting Station on Dec. 11.

A spokesman from the DPRK’s Committee for the Peaceful Unification of the Fatherland, through its statement on Dec.11, a spokesman from the Youth League through its press release on Dec. 12 and a spokesman from the central committee of the General Federation of Trade Union, through its statement on Dec. 14, claimed the South Korean incidents regarding the People’s Revolutionary Party and the Association of the Democratic Youth Students were manipulated by Park Jung-hee’s regime in South Korea and called on the Grand National Party, the opposition party in South Korea to apologize for the incidents.

Foreign Affairs

Regarding the U.S. Ambassador Vershbow’s remarks which blamed North Korea as a criminal state, a spokesman from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, through its commentary on Dec.13, a spokesman from the DPRK’s Committee from the Peaceful Unification of the Fatherland on Dec. 10 and a spokesman from the National Front, through its press release on Dec. 12 condemned his remarks as one which overthrew the fourth round of the Six-Party talks and U.S. declaration of war against North Korea.

The Central Broadcasting Station on Dec.13 denounced U.S. democracy as reactionary politics to trample people’s independent rights and demands, and a synonym for invasion and intervention.

Concerning U.S.’ plan to deploy a nuclear aircraft carrier in Yokosuka port in Japan, the Pyongyang Broadcasting Station on Dec. 11 claimed that U.S.’ attempts at preemptive strikes crossed the dangerous line.

The Central Broadcasting Station on Dec. 12 criticized Japan for revising its Constitution, such as elevating the Japan Defense Agency to the Ministry of Defense and reorganization of Japanese regular armies, and drawing up the plan to establish the central information army.
