Koreans Urged to Glorify June 15 Era

    Pyongyang, December 6 (KCNA) -- The Korean nation's movement for the country's reunification is making dynamic progress, registering valuable achievements thanks to the patriotic enthusiasm and efforts exerted by the Koreans in the north and the south and abroad, guided by the idea of "By our nation itself", the banner of national independence, observes Rodong Sinmun Tuesday in a signed article. The principle of national independence which calls for placing national independence, dignity and interests of the nation above anything else and fully guaranteeing them serves as a lifeline in the movement for national reunification, the article says, and goes on:
    It is necessary for the Korean nation to firmly abide by this principle and put spurs to the movement for independent reunification. The road to be covered by the Koreans' movement for reunification in the days ahead is by no means smooth although it is making progress guided by the idea of "By our nation itself" at the moment. The U.S. is meddling in the inter-Korean undertakings for reconciliation and cooperation and hamstringing them by hook or by crook. What is more serious is that it is driving the situation on the Korean Peninsula to the brink of a war through its moves to start a war of aggression against the DPRK. Equally persistent and vicious is anti-DPRK confrontational hysteria on the part of the GNP and other pro-U.S. conservative forces in south Korea.
    The Korean nation should preserve the idea of "By our nation itself" to the last and thoroughly apply it in the movement for reunification. This idea, the basic spirit of the June 15 North-South Joint Declaration, is an idea of national independence as it calls for opposing and rejecting outsiders' domination and interference in the Koreans' movement for national reunification. It is also necessary to escalate the stand-off with the U.S. The U.S. which is directly responsible for Korea's division has nothing but a wild ambition to put Korea under its permanent domination by perpetuating its division. It is also imperative to stop the reactionary conservative forces in south Korea including the GNP from doing harm to national independence and beclouding the June 15 era of reunification.
    The article stresses the need for all the Koreans in the north and south and abroad to firmly maintain the principle of national independence, fully discharge their responsibility and role as masters responsible for national reunification and thus glorify the June 15 era of reunification.
