Korean Central News Agency of DPRK via Korea News Service (KNS)
Pyongyang, November 7 (KCNA) -- Supreme Commander of the Korean People's Army Kim Jong Il, general secretary of the Workers' Party of Korea and chairman of the National Defense Commission of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea, inspected the Naephyong No. 2 Kunmin Power Station built by servicepersons of Large Combined Unit 549 of the KPA in cooperation with people in the area where they are stationed. They completed the power station, one more creation in the glorious era of Songun, in active cooperation with the people on the occasion of the 60th birthday of the WPK. After being briefed on the power station in front of a large painting showing the panoramic view of the power station, he looked round the huge dam and a large man-made reservoir and a generator room to acquaint himself with its construction and the production of electricity there. Looking at the great edifices associated with the sweat of the servicepersons and people, he expressed great satisfaction over the fact that servicepersons of the unit and their helpers successfully completed the difficult and vast project in a matter of a little over two years by their own efforts, thereby building a modern large hydropower station. He highly praised them for their successes made in the efforts to create lasting wealth for the prosperity of the country and the happiness of the generations to come.
The power station represents a great miracle which can be wrought only by the KPA ready to flatten even a high mountain at one go once they are called upon to do so by the Party, he said, adding that the popular heroism and the noble self-sacrificing spirit displayed by the soldier-builders and the feats performed by them for the country and people will be conveyed down through generations along with the history of building a great prosperous powerful nation.
He set forth tasks which would serve as guidelines in increasing the capacity of the power station and placing the electricity production on a normal footing, noting that the new power station would greatly contribute to the prosperity and development of the country. He underscored the necessity to channel sustained great efforts into the construction of power stations, saying that servicepersons and civilians have built a lot of power stations in different places in recent years in hearty response to the WPK's call for building power stations in a big way and they are now paying off profusely.
Now that electricity is sufficiently provided to the large combined unit, all units and sub-units under it should dynamically push ahead with the work to place the electrification on a high level with a view to doing everything with the help of electricity including room heating, cooking and the operation of saunas and thus bring about a signal turn in the living of the servicepersons.
He was accompanied by KPA Generals Ri Myong Su, Hyon Chol Hae and Pak Jae Gyong, First Vice Department Director of the WPK Central Committee Ri Jae Il and Vice Department Director of the WPK Central Committee Hwang Pyong So.
