DPRK Efforts for Prevention of Bird Flu

    Pyongyang, November 6 (KCNA) -- The DPRK is directing big efforts to preventing the bird flu which is rapidly spreading the world over. Leader Kim Jong Il recently spoke of bird flu several times and took concrete measures.
    All the officials and the working people across the country including those of the Cabinet Secretariat, ministries and national institutions and the field of the veterinary and anti-epizootic and public health have turned out as one in the prevention of bird flu.
    They are explaining measures for preventing bird flu in various forms and methods to conduct a mass movement. The National Emergency Veterinary and Anti-Epizootic Committee is strengthening a uniform command to prevent the bird flu all over the country. The Ministry of Agriculture is obtaining data on the outbreak of bird flu and damage in other countries and technical data on its prevention and sending them to provinces, cities and counties.
    All chicken farms are carrying emergency veterinary work, stopping visitors from entering, sterilizing coops and vehicles and establishing veterinary checkup system for poultry and eggs.
    The National Hygienic Prevention Centre and the provincial hygienic prevention centres in close contact with the National Emergency Veterinary and Anti-Epizootic Committee have organized epidemiological information sections concerning bird flu and sanitation propaganda sections and are informing relevant units of global situation, danger and prevention methods.
    Officials of hygienic and quarantine organs are acquainting themselves with the general situation of poultry and supervising it and conducting a regular medical checkup of all breeders as well as those who breed domestic animals. Meanwhile, the State Bureau for Quality Control regularly grasp the international data on bird flu and technical data necessary for its prevention and has established the epidemiological information system for relevant fields and intensified quarantine at ports, wharves, airports and other places.
