Increased Role of Rodong Sinmun Called for

    Pyongyang, November 1 (KCNA) -- Rodong Sinmun Tuesday in an editorial dedicated to its 60th anniversary says that the media of the Workers' Party of Korea including Rodong Sinmun would hold higher the brush of Songun given by the party and defend and preserve our idea, system and cause to the last. President Kim Il Sung's founding of Rodong Sinmun on Nov. 1, 1945 marked a historic event of great significance in the Korean people's political life and in the efforts to accomplish the revolutionary cause of Juche, the editorial says, and goes on:
    Every page of the WPK's history that has led the most difficult and complicated struggle in our era to victory is associated with the feats performed by the media. The party organ has upheld the party's idea and cause in the van as a successful educator, reliable agitator and faithful mouthpiece. Rodong Sinmun is highly proud of having shared its destiny with the headquarters of the revolution as a witness to the great revolutionary history of Kim Il Sung and leader Kim Jong Il and remained intensely loyal to the party's leadership.
    The party's media including the newspaper have greeted the new era of its development under the banner of Songun idea. The media have successfully discharged their mission and role as a guide and bugler in transforming man, society and nature as required by the great Juche idea, the Songun idea, after setting it as the supreme principle of all their struggles and activities to thoroughly implement Kim Jong Il's Songun idea and line. Herein lie the essential characteristics of our media and their high prestige.
    The party's media serve as a stronghold that devotedly defends the headquarters of Songun revolution, sharing destiny with it to the last, a mighty ideological weapon for strengthening the unity for Songun revolution in every way and mouthpiece of justice and its guardian as they have firmly preserved the working-class principle and socialist principle and resolutely foiled the imperialists' ideological offensive against socialism. Korean-style socialism will remain unfazed and will always emerge victorious based on the rock-firm political and ideological and military position as long as the army and people remain intensely loyal to the party's Songun revolutionary leadership and its media's brush demonstrates its might as a mighty ideological weapon.
