60th Anniversary of Rodong Sinmun Marked

    Pyongyang, November 1 (KCNA) -- A meeting commemorating the 60th anniversary of Rodong Sinmun took place at the People's Palace of Culture on Monday. Choe Chil Nam, editor-in-chief of the Rodong Sinmun, in a report said that President Kim Il Sung saw to it that the first issue of Jongro, predecessor of Rodong Sinmun, was made public on Nov. 1, Juche 34 (1945), thus providing the Workers' Party of Korea with a mighty ideological weapon for victoriously pushing ahead with the revolution and construction as a ruling party. The birth of the party organ was an epochal event that opened a new history of media building in our era guided by the immortal Juche idea, he said, and continued:
    The foundation of the party organ and the history of its development are shining with a history in which the legendary great persons' ideas of attaching importance to ideology and brush has been applied and brought into full bloom, the history associated with the efforts to defend the idea and line of the founder of the organ, the leader, based on the revolutionary view on the leader and resolutely safeguard the unity and cohesion of the party and the ideological position of socialism.
    In the worthwhile period of modeling the whole society on the Juche idea as well as the period of the building of a new society and the grim revolutionary war and the grand Chollima march the paper has invariably and creditably fulfilled its role as the mouthpiece of the party, defender and implementer of the party policies and educator of the masses. It is the great pride of Rodong Sinmun that the paper has strengthened and developed as a mighty ideological weapon for carrying out the Songun revolutionary cause.
    The paper could develop into the most revolutionary media, breaking through all tempests in the past six decades, which is a noble fruition of Kim Il Sung and Kim Jong Il's energetic leadership.
    Rodong Sinmun has developed into a militant weapon for defending the single-minded unity of the whole party and army and all the people around the headquarters of the revolution like the apple of the eye and pushing ahead with the Songun revolutionary cause and a friendly companion loved by the party members and other people under the wise guidance of the WPK and the leader.
    The reporter called on all officials, journalists, editors and employees of the Rodong Sinmun to discharge their heavy yet honorable mission as ideological standard-bearers in the sacred struggle to accomplish the Songun revolutionary cause with the pride of having created the glorious history of victory and exploits.
    The meeting was attended by Choe Thae Bok and Kim Ki Nam, secretaries of the Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea, and other officials concerned.
    Members of a delegation of the Choson Sinbo of the General Association of Korean Residents in Japan staying in the socialist homeland were also present.
