Pyongyang, October 14 (KCNA) -- Sixty years have passed since a mammoth Pyongyang city mass rally was held at the Pyongyang public playground (Kim Il Sung Stadium at present) on October 14, Juche 34 (1945) in welcome of the triumphant return of President Kim Il Sung, the peerless patriot, who led the anti-Japanese war to victory to liberate the country. Pyongyang Minbo, a newspaper at that time, wrote about the rally:
"Pyongyang has a long history of 4,000 years and a large population of 400,000. Has it ever had such a large meeting as this and such an important meeting?
"c As soon as General Kim Il Sung appeared on the platform, the hero whom the Korean people hold in high respect and have been looking forward to seeing, a storm of enthusiastic cheers arose, and most of the audience were deeply moved to silent tears."
The playground was crowded with Pyongyang citizens and many other people who came from Sinuiju, Chongjin, Hamhung, Wonsan, Haeju and south Korea, carrying bouquets and placards in their hands.
As soon as the President appeared on the platform with bright smile on his face, a wave of emotion swept the meeting place and a storm of enthusiastic cheers arose.
The cheers reflected the profound congratulations and commendation to the President, the benevolent liberator, who saved the country and the nation, overcoming all manner of hardships.
At the meeting, the President made a historic speech "Every Effort for the Building of a New, Democratic Korea".
He appealed to the whole nation to build a prosperous independent state in Korea, united as one--those with strength dedicating strength, those with knowledge devoting knowledge and those with money donating money. His call was responded again with stormy cheers echoing Moran Hill. His speech replete with the love for the country and the nation and the idea of great national unity has served as ideological and mental source with which the people have established the Korean-style socialist country independent in politics, self-supporting in the economy and self-reliant in defence. And the enthusiastic cheers supporting his idea are still touching a string in the hearts of the Korean people.
In order to convey the historical triumphant return home of the President down through generations, the Korean people reconstructed Moranbong Stadium on an extension basis and named it Kim Il Sung Stadium and erected the Arch of Triumph, a monumental edifice.
