Through Nodong Daily’s political essay titled ‘Leap toward the future.’ on October 15, North Korea emphasized Chairman Kim Jong-il’s achievements as a leader of Songun (military-first) politics and proposed a vision of an economically strong nation.

The railway from Wonsan to Mt.Geumkang was opened while its service was started on October 10, according to the Central Broadcasting Station on October 20.

The North Korean Anti-Nuclear Peace Committee’s spokesman called for investigation into the truth, claiming that hundred tons of uranium had been missing in the nuclear material deal between South Korea and the U.S, according to the Central Broadcasting Station and the Pyongyang Broadcasting Station on October 15.

The DPRK's Committee for the Peaceful Reuniification of the Fatherland’s secretariat criticized the Dong-a Ilbo ( a South Korean daily)’s editorial on the Uri Party (South Korea’s ruling party)’s suggestion on exchanges between the South and North Korean ruling party for instigating anti-North Korea confrontation viciously, according to the Central Broadcasting Station and the Pyongyang Broadcasting Station on October 19.

Foreign Affairs

New Mexico Governor Bill Richardson and his accompanying delegation arrived at Pyongyang on October 17 and held a talk with Kim Yong-nam, chairman of the Presidium of the Supreme People's Assembly on October 20, according to the Central Broadcasting Station and the Pyongyang Broadcasting Station on October 17 and 20.

The Chinese Foreign Ministry’s spokesman announced on October 18 that Li Bin, Chinese special envoy to North Korea would pay a visit to North Korea to discuss issues related to the fifth round of the six-party talks from October 18 to 20.

The North Korean representative, in his address in the first committee of the 60 th UN General Assembly on October 7, called for the provision of light water reactors as a proof to verify the withdrawal of the U.S hostile policy toward North Korea and to acknowledge peaceful nuclear activities in North Korea, according to the Central Broadcasting Station and the Pyongyang Broadcasting Station on October 14. And in his representative address in the second committee of the 60 th UN General Assembly on October 5, he demanded that international conditions and environments be improved to help developing countries to get out of poverty and promote their developments.
