Kim Jong Il Receives Russian Presidential Envoy

    Pyongyang, October 9 (KCNA) -- Kim Jong Il, general secretary of the Workers' Party of Korea and chairman of the DPRK National Defence Commission, Sunday received Konstantin Borisovich Pulikovski, presidential envoy to the Far East Region of the Russian Federation, and his party on a visit to the DPRK to participate in the celebrations of the 60th birthday of the WPK. Present there were Kang Sok Ju, first vice-minister of Foreign Affairs, and Andrei Karlov, Russian ambassador to the DPRK. The presidential envoy conveyed a personal letter from Russian President V. V. Putin to Kim Jong Il before presenting him with a gift prepared by himself. Kim Jong Il thanked for this and had a cordial and friendly talk with the presidential envoy.
    After receiving the Russian guests, Kim Jong Il hosted a luncheon in honor of them.
    Present there on invitation were the presidential envoy and his party and official diplomats of the Russian embassy.
    Also present there were Kang Sok Ju, first vice-minister of Foreign Affairs, Kim Yang Gon, councilor of the DPRK National Defence Commission, Kim Kye Gwan, vice-minister of Foreign Affairs, and Generals of the Korean People's Army Ri Myong Su, Hyon Chol Hae and Pak Jae Gyong. The luncheon proceeded in an amicable atmosphere.
