Pyongyang, September 19 (KCNA) -- Kim Jong Il, general secretary of the Workers' Party of Korea and chairman of the DPRK National Defence Commission, gave on-the-spot guidance to the Monranbong Theatre now under reconstruction on the occasion of the 60th anniversary of the WPK. He was greeted on the spot by commanding officers of the unit of the Korean People's Army, engaged in the reconstruction project.
Upon his arrival there, he heard a report from the commander of the unit that it is carrying out his order earlier than scheduled.
The theatre standing imposingly halfway up Moran Hill is a historic building as it has witnessed unforgettable important events that took place in the glorious course of development of the WPK and the DPRK.
At this theatre President Kim Il Sung guided various meetings, art performances and external affairs on more than 200 occasions. They included the fourth and fifth plenary meetings of the Central Committee of the WPK, the first session of the DPRK Supreme People's Assembly, the national meeting of peasants who reaped a rich harvest and meetings of officials in various fields including one for national reunification. Going round the outside and inside of the theatre for a long time, he learned about how the reconstruction is going on.
No details escaped him, ranging from its architectural style and content to its decorations and furnishings. He extended thanks to the soldier builders there, expressing his great satisfaction with the fact that they are reconstructing the theatre at the highest level to meet the aesthetic need of the new century by displaying popular heroism.
He highly praised their feats, noting that the country came to have a modern cultural edifice, its one more valuable property, thanks to their devoted efforts. He set forth important tasks to be fulfilled to complete the project and manage and operate the theatre.
He was accompanied by Pak Pong Ju, premier of the DPRK Cabinet, Kim Kuk Thae and Kim Ki Nam, secretaries of the Central Committee of the WPK, Ri Yong Chol and Ri Jae Il, first vice- department directors of the C.C., WPK, and KPA Generals Ri Myong Su, Hyon Chol Hae and Pak Jae Gyong.
