Internal Affairs
Chairman Kim Jong-il, accompanied by leading figures from the Party, the military and the government, inspected army units and gave on-the-site guidance to enterprises in Hamheung province.
Chairman Kim Jong-il, accompanied by generals of the People’s Army Ri Myung-soo, Hyun Cheol-hae, and Park Jae-kyung inspected the company under the army unit 916 and the plant under the army unit 966, according to the Central Broadcasting Station on Sep. 22.
Chairman Kim Jong-il, together with Premier Park Bong-ju, director of the People’s Armed Forces Kim Il-cheol, Secretaries of the Korea Workers’ Party (KWP) Kim Kuk-tae and Kim Ki-nam, observed the performance of the art propaganda squad under the army unit 630 and 526, according to the Central Broadcasting Station on Sep. 21.
Taking Premier Park Bong-ju, Secretaries of the KWP Kim Kuk-tae and Kim Ki-nam, deputy directors of the KWP Ree Yong-cheol and Ree Jae-il, Chairman Kim Jong-il gave on-the-spot guidance to Moranbong Theater which was under construction , according to the Central Broadcasting Station Sep.19.
Accompanied by Premier Park Bong-ju, Secretaries of the KWP Kim Kuk-tae and Kim Ki-nam, director of the KWP Park Nam-ki, Chairman Kim Jong-il also gave on-the-site guidance to the Hungnam Fertilizer Complex, according to the Central Broadcasting Station on Sep. 18.
Taking Secretary of the KWP Kim Ki-nam, director of the KWP Park Nam-ki, and deputy director of the KWP Joo Kyu-change, Chairman Kim Jong-il gave on-the-site guidance to the Ryongsong Machine Complex and the Hungnam Pharmaceutical Factory, according to the Central Broadcasting Station on Sep. 17.
Accompanied by Secretary of KWP Kim Ki-nam and director of KWP Park Nam -ki, Chairman Kim Jong-il gave on-the-site guidance to the Tanchon Fireproof Materials Factory, according to the Central Broadcasting Station on Sep. 16.
In celebration of the 60 th anniversary of the Party Establishment, the ‘National Industrial Arts Exhibition’ was opened at the New Technology Innovation Room in the Three Revolution Exhibition Hall, according to the Pyongyang Broadcasting Station on Sep.22.
The ‘16 th National Program Competition and Exhibition’ was held in the Three Revolution Exhibition Hall from Sep. 13 to Sep. 20 with 750 programs on exhibition, according to the Pyongyang Broadcasting Station on Sep. 21.
On the occasion of Chuseok, one of Korea ’s most celebrated national holidays, Chairman Kim Jong-il sent flower baskets to the graves of Kim Bo-hyeon, Lee Bo-ik, Kim Hyung-gik and Kang Ban-seok and the mausoleum for patriots, according to the Central Broadcasting Station and the Pyongyang Broadcasting Station on Sep. 18.
The 3 rd National Ssireum (folk wrestling) Tournament for the ‘Grand Bull Prize’ was held in Rungna Islet Ssireum Stadium from Sep. 14 to 16, according to the Central Broadcasting Station and the Pyongyang Broadcasting Station on Sep. 17.
A commemorative briefing session was held on the 50 th anniversary of the establishment of the Chosun Civil Aviation General Bureau on Sep. 21, according to the Central Broadcasting Station and the Pyongyang Broadcasting Station on Sep. 22.
Inter-Korean Affairs
South and North Korea held the 16 th Inter-Korean Ministerial Talks in Pyongyang from Sep. 13 to 16. The two sides consulted on current issues for the establishment of peace and co-prosperity on the Korean Peninsula and announced a joint statement consisting of a 6-point agreement.
The National Front’s spokesperson, through a talk on Sep. 22, criticized the Grand National Party’s (the South Korean opposition party) floor leader for being subservient to the United States and maneuvering an anti-DPRK scheme regarding the announcement of his opposition to the withdrawal of General MacArthur’s statue.
Foreign Affairs
The second phase of the fourth round of six-party talks was resumed in Beijing from Sep. 13 to 19 and the six parties adopted a 6-point joint statement on the goals of the denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula .
The spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in the DPRK, through his talks related to the termination of the fourth round of six-party talks, insisted that after a light water reactor is provided, all nuclear programs be dismantled, according to the Central Broadcasting Station on Sep. 20.
Concerning the release of the U.S Department of Defense’s first draft on a comprehensive nuclear operation doctrine, North Korea denounced the U.S, claiming that North Korea , dubbed as the axis of evil by the U.S, would be the first target of the U.S. ’s doctrine on preemptive nuclear weapons strikes, according to the Pyongyang Broadcasting Station on Sep. 21.
The third international solidarity consultative meeting, which called for the settlement of the past crimes committed by Japan , was held in Pyongyang on Sep. 22 with the participation of delegations from the two Koreas , the United States , Japan , and China , according to the Central Broadcasting Station and the Pyongyang Broadcasting Station on Sep. 22.
An ensemble from the Ministry of International Affairs, Russian National Academy arrived at Pyongyang on Sep. 20 and held a performance at Bonghwa Arts Theatre, according to the Central Broadcasting Station and the Pyongyang Broadcasting Station on Sep.20 and 22.
The North Korean delegation headed by Yang Hyung-seop, vice chairman of the Presidium of Supreme People’s Assembly departed from Pyongyang on Sep. 20 to pay a visit to Cuba and Venezuela , according to the Central Broadcasting Station and the Pyongyang Broadcasting Station on Sep.20.
The Korean Agricultural Workers Union delegation headed by chairman Kang Chang-wook visited China and returned to North Korea on Sep. 20, according to the Central Broadcasting Station and Pyongyang Broadcasting Station on Sep.20.
The Chinese Nationwide Industry Association delegation headed by vice president Wang Luisang arrived at Pyongayng on Sep.20. On the same day, Vice Minister of the Mongolian Ministry of Industry and Trade Yenhutobusin, visited North Korea , according to the Central Broadcasting Station on Sep. 20.
