Korean Central News Agency of DPRK via Korea News Service (KNS)

Pyongyang, August 25 (KCNA) -- Rodong Sinmun today dedicates a signed article to the 30th anniversary of the DPRK's entry into the Non-Aligned Movement as a full-fledge member. Its entry into the NAM served as an important occasion in increasing the ranks of the movement and promoting its strengthening and development and raising the external position and voice of the DPRK, the article notes, and goes on: The DPRK's entry gave a fresh impetus to the Non-Aligned Movement and energy and courage to non-aligned and other developing countries.
With this event, the position and might of the NAM were strengthened and favorable circumstance and phase were provided to preserve the purity of the movement as the independent political forces and hasten its development and triumphant advance. In the days of the 6th Summit of NAM countries, the DPRK disclosed the imperialists' moves to split and sow discord among NAM members and strove for the unity and solidarity of the movement. This greatly helped save the NAM from crisis of division and ensure its progress in conformity with its noble mission and purpose. Over the past years the DPRK has exerted all possible efforts to preserve the idea and principle of the movement and its purity from every obstruction of the imperialists and ensure its unity and development.
Now the NAM is faced with important tasks to strengthen solidarity and cooperation among its member countries, reject any attempts to degrade its fundamental principle and political nature, and increase its action capability as a political force speaking for the South in the UN and other international arenas.
The DPRK, which regards it as an iron principle of its foreign policy to invariably preserve the basic principle and idea of the NAM, will as ever fulfill its responsibility and duty for the strengthening and development of the movement for global independence and the NAM, the article concludes.
