    Pyongyang, August 4 (KCNA) -- The publication of the DPRK-Russia Moscow Declaration signed by leader Kim Jong Il and President Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin four years ago was an epochal event of weighty significance in steadily developing the DPRK-Russia friendship on a new high stage in the new century, say newspapers Thursday. Recalling that Kim Jong Il stayed in Russia from July 26, 2001 and paid an official visit to it between Aug. 4 and 5 at the invitation of Putin, Rodong Sinmun says: Meetings and talks between Kim Jong Il and Putin marked a historic occasion in boosting the bilateral ties of friendship.
    The DPRK-Russia Moscow Declaration adopted and published during Kim Jong Il's historic visit to Russia was a historic declaration that formally confirmed before the international community the will and stand of the two countries to develop the bilateral relations of friendship and cooperation in all fields in keeping with the common desire and interests of the two peoples and the requirements of the new century, ensure peace and security in Asia and other parts of the world and actively promote the common cause of humankind to build a just, new world.
    The bilateral relations of friendship have dynamically developed on a new high stage for the past four years after the publication of the declaration.
    Today the Russian people are striving to achieve social stability and national unity and defend the security and interests of the country under the leadership of Putin.
    The Korean people highly estimate the efforts exerted by the Russian government and people for social stability and progress, national security and interests and the building of a strong state and wholeheartedly hope that everything would go well in Russia.
    It is the invariable will and stand of the DPRK government and people to steadily boost the DPRK-Russia friendship with a long history and tradition. The strengthening of bilateral friendship fully conforms with the desire and interests of the two peoples and it is beneficial to ensuring peace and security in Asia and the rest of the world and achieving global independence and multi-polarization. The Korean people are convinced that the traditional DPRK-Russia friendly and cooperative relations that have developed century after century will as ever grow stronger in the spirit of the declaration.
