Contacts between Heads of DPRK and U.S. Delegations to Sixth-Party Talks Made

Korean Central News Agency of DPRK via Korea News Service (KNS)

Pyongyang, July 9 (KCNA) -- DPRK Vice-Minister of Foreign Affairs Kim Kye Gwan and U.S. Assistant Secretary of State Christopher Hill, who are heads of their countries' delegations to the six-party talks, met in Beijing on July 9. The U.S. side clarified its official stand to recognize the DPRK as a sovereign state, not to invade it and hold bilateral talks within the framework of the six-party talks.
The DPRK side interpreted the U.S. side's expression of its stand as a retraction of its remark designating the former as an "outpost of tyranny" and decided to return to the six-party talks.
Both sides agreed to open the fourth round of the six-party talks in the week which begins on July 25, 2005.
