Nat'l Meeting Marks Anniversary of Kim Jong Il's Start of Work at C.C., WPK

    Pyongyang, June 18 (KCNA) -- A national meeting took place at the April 25 House of Culture Saturday to mark the 41st anniversary of leader Kim Jong Il's start of work at the Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea. The meeting was attended by senior officials of the Party, the state and army, Cabinet members and other officials, working people from all walks of life in Pyongyang and overseas Koreans.
    Choe Thae Bok, alternate member of the Political Bureau and secretary of the WPK Central Committee, made a report.
    He said that the leadership provided by Kim Jong Il to the WPK made it possible for the Party to make the glorious history of the building of a revolutionary party in the era of Juche, having the legendary great man born of Mt Paektu at its head generation after generation and for the Korean revolution to greet the era of great changes in all fields of the revolution and construction, glorifying the annals of noble succession.
    In the early days of his leadership over the party he considered it as his lifetime task to improve and develop the WPK into an eternal party of President Kim Il Sung and wisely led the work for its implementation, the reporter said, and continued:
    In this period Kim Jong Il confirmed the President's revolutionary idea as a unique idea to be held fast to by the WPK and achieved the party ranks' strong unity in thinking and purpose and preserved their purity through a resolute struggle to do away with all sorts of alien ideas and factional elements.
    Early in the 1970s he was acclaimed as the successor to Kim Il Sung according to the unanimous desire and wish of the entire party and army and all the people.
    Thanks to this historic event the WPK became a proud party that most satisfactorily and successfully solved the issue of successor to the political leader and the Korean revolution came to shed brilliant rays as the great revolution which gives steady continuity to the tradition of Juche.
    Kim Jong Il formulated the President's revolutionary idea as an idea guiding the revolution in our era. He proclaimed the programme of modeling the whole society on the Juche idea and set forth the unique line of party building, the line of modeling the whole party on the Juche idea and has energetically led the work for its materialization. A particular mention should be made of the fact that Kim Jong Il has wisely led the Party to model its entire membership and all members of the society on its monolithic idea, the Juche idea, putting main emphasis on the ideology, and preserve the purity of its revolutionary traditions and comprehensively carry forward and develop them.
    What occupies a distinguished place in the history of his great leadership over the Party is that he has firmly built the Party into a strong guiding force of the Songun revolution.
    For over 40 years, he has led the Party to victory, breaking through all sorts of political upheavals in the world and thus brought about gigantic epoch-making changes in carrying out the revolutionary cause of Juche.
    Under his wise guidance, the DPRK has emerged a politically and ideologically strong country and a military power unprecedented in the national history spanning 5,000 years.
    We are faced with an honorable yet responsible tasks to further strengthen the Party, the guiding force of the Juche revolution, and dynamically accelerate the general march of the Songun revolution in order to scale the high eminence of a great prosperous powerful socialist nation at an early date, achieve the independent reunification of the country and bring earlier the final victory of the revolutionary cause of Juche. A sure guarantee for successfully performing these historic tasks is to strengthen and develop the Party to be an eternal party of President Kim Il Sung under the leadership of Kim Jong Il. It is necessary for us to invariably consider the work to establish the unitary leadership system of the Party as a fundamental principle of the Party building and its activities, the basic line of its work, and steadily develop the work in depth as required by the Songun revolution.
    It is also necessary to thoroughly establish the trait of attaching importance to military affairs throughout the society as required by the WPK's Songun policy and make sure that an unprecedented surge is effected in the production in all domains of the national economy as it took place in the period of great Chollima upswing in the 1950s. The reporter went on:
    We should realize the three forms of cooperation for national independence and peace against war and reunification and patriotism in the idea of "By our nation itself," guided by the spirit of the June 15 North-South Joint Declaration, to achieve new progress in accomplishing the cause of national reunification. It is necessary to develop our relations with different countries of the world on the principle of independence, equality and mutual benefit.
    Pointing out that the situation on the Korean Peninsula has reached a grave phase due to the U.S. hostile policy and reckless war moves against the DPRK, the reporter declared: Should the U.S. dare start a war on the peninsula despite our repeated warnings, we will mobilize all the political and military potentials built up with increased efforts under the banner of Songun and wipe out the aggressors without mercy.
