Kim Jong Il Inspects KPA Large Combined Unit

Pyongyang, April 27 (KCNA) -- Supreme Commander of the Korean People's Army Kim Jong Il, general secretary of the Workers' Party of Korea and chairman of the DPRK National Defence Commission, inspected the command of a KPA
large combined unit in the eastern sector of the front.
The large combined unit was honored with field guidance given by President Kim Il Sung and Kim Jong Il several times including the historic on-the-spot guidance in May 1965.
Kim Jong Il who made a long trip to the front looked round the monument to the field guidance of Kim Il Sung and the room devoted to the history of the unit. He said that thanks to the outstanding leadership and meticulous care of the President the unit could perform shining exploits in the sacred battles to crush the enemy in the days of the hard-fought war and has grown strong to be a matchless combat contingent capable of wiping out any formidable enemy.
He conversed with commanding officers of the unit.
They had the high honor of reporting to him the achievements made by them in the efforts to implement the tasks given by him during his series of field guidance.
He was greatly pleased to learn that the commanding officers and men of the unit have grown to be able commanding officers with high capabilities and qualifications and creative ingenuity and initiative and stalwart fighters.
He highly appreciated the successes made by all the servicepersons of the unit, noting that they have done a lot of work by displaying patriotic devotion in reliably defending the outposts of the country true to the WPK's Songun leadership.
After going round entertainment and logistic facilities of the unit, he met with servicepersons of its sub-unit. He learned in detail about their service and living, asking how are all servicepersons on the forefront, if it is not hard to stand guard over the forefront, if they don't feel any inconvenience in their living and if they regularly receive tidings from their hometowns.
He was very pleased to hear that all of them have grown to be exemplary soldiers who creditably perform their duties with high awareness that they are soldiers with rifles in hands. He wished them a happy future, urging all of them to remain faithful to their military service to become excellent soldiers.
He spared time to watch together with the commanding officers of the unit and their families a performance given by an art squad at the hall of the command of the large combined unit.
He had a photo session with servicepersons of the command.
He was accompanied by Chief of the KPA General Staff Kim Yong Chun and KPA General Pak Jae Gyong.
