    Pyongyang, April 2 (KCNA) -- Colorful functions were held in many countries on the occasion of the Day of the Sun and the 12th anniversary of the election of leader Kim Jong Il as chairman of the DPRK National Defence Commission. A meeting was held by the Romanian Working Party on Mar. 24. Speakers at the meeting said the world progressive people are greatly encouraged by the Korean people who have defended the sovereignty and security of the country by reacting against the U.S. hostile moves against the DPRK with the toughest actions under the banner of Songun. The election of Kim Jong Il as chairman of the DPRK National Defence Commission was an event recorded in the history of the great Songun politics, they stressed.
    A meeting was held by the Ukrainian Youth Association of "Treasured Sword of Songun" on the same day.
    Speakers at the meeting highly praised the Songun leadership exploits Kim Jong Il has performed by strengthening and developing the DPRK into an invincible military power. They expressed full support for the Korean people in their just cause to defend sovereignty, dignity and security of the country and the nation.
    Meanwhile, a commemoration meeting was held in Sankt-Petersburg on Mar. 26 under the sponsorship of the Russian Youth Association for the Study of the Songun Politics. Mikhail Panchenko, chairman of the association, said in his speech that the Songun politics pursued by Kim Jong Il proves its great vitality not only in the military field but also in all the fabrics of social life.
    Messages of greetings to Kim Jong Il were adopted at the functions.
