Kim Jong Il Gives Field Guidance to Iron Enterprise

Pyongyang, January 13 (KCNA) -- Kim Jong Il, general secretary of the Workers' Party of Korea and chairman of the DPRK National Defence Commission, gave field guidance to the September General Iron Enterprise.
He first looked round the monument to the on-the-spot guidance given by President Kim Il Sung standing at the entrance to the enterprise.
The President visited there in September 1970 and chose the site for the enterprise. When it was completed, he visited it again and indicated the orientation and ways of converting it into a Juche-based iron production centre.
Under the wise leadership and meticulous care of the President there appeared at the northwestern tip of the country one more metallurgical complex producing pig iron, rolled steel, steel and other iron and steel products, Kim Jong Il said, adding that the immortal revolutionary exploits performed by the President would shine forever along with the history of the enterprise.
After being briefed on the enterprise before its panoramic map, he went round the steel shop and other processes to learn in detail with its technical equipment and production.
The enterprise has brought about a revolutionary turn in the steel production by introducing an ultra-high voltage electric furnace, a highly sophisticated one in the steel industry, true to the WPK's policy of attaching importance to science and technology.
After learning about the technical specification and capacity of the furnace, he expressed great satisfaction over the fact that the enterprise has made a leaping advance in the production by establishing a steel production system operated by dint of ultra-high voltage electricity, the most advanced steel-making method.
He highly praised the merits of the workers and technicians of the enterprise and members of the scientists and technicians shock brigade and teachers and researchers of Kim Chaek University of Technology active there, noting it is a signal achievement that they have successfully realized the modernization of the enterprise by their concerted efforts in a short span of time.
The country's economic potential is growing stronger as the heroic working class rose as one to achieve the prosperity and development of the country and built great edifices in its various parts, he said, stressing that the cause of building a great prosperous powerful nation is sure to be accomplished ahead of schedule thanks to the ever-growing inexhaustible strength of the people.
He set forth tasks to be fulfilled by the entgerprise.
He underscored the need for the enterprise to replenish and complete various processes including the construction of a new rolling shop to steadily increase the production capacity, while making an effective use of the existing production foundation. He also called for paying sustained primary attention to putting the enterprise on a modern and scientific basis.
Noting that it is the WPK's invariable policy to thoroughly establish Juche in the metallurgical industry, he underlined the need to follow the example set by the Songjin Steel Complex and consolidate the Juche-based iron production centre.
Sky-high are the spirits of the officials, workers and technicians of the enterprise who have launched the drive for the new year with strong conviction and a high ambition, he said, calling for intensifying the organizational and political work and improving the supply service in keeping with their elated enthusiasm.
He was accompanied by Kim Phyong Hae, chief secretary of the North Phyongan Provincial Committee of the WPK, Jon Pyong Ho, secretary of its Central Committee, and Ri Yong Chol and Ju Kyu Chang, first vice department directors of its Central Committee.
