Kim Jong Il Gives Field Guidance to Steel Complex

    Pyongyang, December 15 (KCNA) -- Kim Jong Il, general secretary of the Workers' Party of Korea and chairman of the National Defence Commission of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea, gave field guidance to the Songjin Steel Complex which is taking the lead in effecting a great surge in the production. He first went round the monument to the field guidance of President Kim Il Sung and the room devoted to the history of the complex.
    Looking back with deep emotion on the history of the development of the complex in which it has covered the road of victory and glory, Kim Jong Il said that under the wise leadership of the President the Songjin Steel Complex turned into a Juche-oriented powerful metallurgical base.
    Praising the workers of the Songjin Steel Complex as the heroic workers who have defended the Party and leader in the van with the steel production in each period of the revolution and at its every stage, he stressed the need to continue to uphold and defend this brilliant tradition of the struggle.
    He moved on to an electric furnace crimson with molten iron to see the tapping operation of workers there, he praised them for their efforts and gave a warm pep-talk to them.
    Going round for a long while the high pressure steel pipe shop, the oxygen plant, the May 17 factory and various other production processes, he learned in detail about the technical reconstruction and the production performance.
    Saying that the position and role of the complex are very important for the nation's economic development, he set forth tasks to be fulfilled by the complex.
    After familiarizing himself with the supply service at the complex, he inspected the workers' dormitory.
    Seeing modern supply facilities and each subsidiary food store and cold storage full of meat, fish and other varieties of non-staple food, he expressed great satisfaction over the fact that the complex has provided its workers with good living conditions and bountiful diet.
    He had a photo session with the technicians and innovators of the complex, expressing expectation and conviction that the workers of the complex would as ever creditably play their role as a pace-setter and a shock force in implementing the WPK's economic policy.
    He was accompanied by Hong Sok Hyong, chief secretary of the North Hamgyong Provincial Committee of the WPK.
