Korean Central News Agency of DPRK
Pyongyang, December 14 (KCNA) -- Kim Jong Il, general secretary of the Workers' Party of Korea and chairman of the National Defence Commission of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea, gave field guidance to the Orangchon Power Stations now under construction.
The construction of the power stations is making rapid progress thanks to the devoted efforts of the builders and their helpers to implement the tasks given by Kim Jong Il during his inspection of the construction site in July last year.
After being briefed on the construction before the panoramic map of the power stations, he looked round the sites to acquaint himself in detail with the progress made in the project.
He watched the gigantic dam and the generator room of power station No. 1 nearing its completion. He was greatly pleased to see the construction of the power station going full steam ahead, noting that the appearance of the construction sites have changed beyond recognition in one year.
The construction of power stations alone makes us clearly realize what an enormous strength the Korean people have, he noted, adding that edifices now under construction in various parts of the country in the Songun era are the brilliant fruition of the inexhaustible spiritual power of the People's Army and the people single-heartedly united around the Party.
He underscored the need to ensure the best quality in the construction of the Orangchon Power Stations to win the admiration of posterity as they are edifices of eternal value to be handed down to the generations to come.
The construction of hydraulic power stations is not only economical but a shortcut to satisfactorily meeting the increasing need for electricity, he noted, calling for continuing to thoroughly implement the Party's policy for extensively building minor power stations while constructing large ones.
He set forth tasks to be fulfilled to finish the construction earlier than scheduled.
He was accompanied by Hong Sok Hyong, chief secretary of the North Hamgyong Provincial Committee of the WPK, and Kim Ki Nam, secretary of the WPK Central Committee.
