Inside North Korea
Kim Jong Il, accompanied by Hyon Chol Hae, Park Jae Kyong, and Ri Yong Chol, paid a visit to KPA unit 1401 (date unreported) and laid flowers in honor of the nation’s deceased, Kim Bong Ae Kim (an actress) and Kim Deok Kyu (an artist).” (Oct. 27, Oct. 28, Oct. 30, Central Broadcasting Station)
The Central Broadcasting Station, in the October 26 political argument titled “Defending at the Risk of One’s Life,” asserted that the people living in North Korea should fight to protect top-level executives of the revolution, the great heart of the North Korean race, so as to achieve the greatest honor and happiness as a human being.
The Central Broadcasting Station (Oct. 26) reported that “a national meeting on education was held at the People’s Palace of Culture on the 26th of October, and was attended by Park Pong Ju, Yon Hyong Muk, ·Choe Tae Bok, Kim Jung Rin, and relevant officials and members, including Kim Yong-jin, the minister of education. At the rally, Minister Kim Yong-jin stressed that all young students should be educated to become revolutionaries with the strong and focused spirit of defending the Leader at the risk of their lives, and that young students should be trained to become the heroic fighters of our era.”
International Issues
Rodong Shinmun, in its October 25 editorial titled “the Great Deeds of the People’s Liberation Army of China Will be Eternal,” emphasized that the officers and men of the People’s Army of North Korea extend a brotherly greeting to the officers and men of the People’s Liberation Army and express sublime respect to the heroes of the Chinese army in commemoration of the 54th anniversary of Chinese soldiers’ participation in the Korean War.” (Oct. 25, Pyongyang Broadcasting Service)
Rodong Shinmun, in its October 28 editorial titled “the Alternative Solution is to Strengthen Control,” asserted that “the joint maritime training conducted in Japan’s Tokyo Bay by the U.S. and Japan as of October 26 is in preparation for invading North Korea, as reported earlier, in order to quash North Korea with force by building an encircling net around the peninsula.” (Oct. 28, Pyongyang Broadcasting Service)
Inter-Korean Issues
The Central Broadcasting Station emphasized on October 28 that South Korea should clearly understand that the root of evil in terrorist attacks and the true offender is the U.S., and make a resolute decision to withdraw troops from Iraq instead of trying to read the minds of outside powers.
The spokesman for the Committee for the Peaceful Reunification of the Fatherland denounced South Korea in an interview with the KCNA, saying, “We cannot simply ignore South Korea’s playing along with the U.S. in its repetitive voicing of opinions on human rights issue in North Korea.” (Oct. 28, Pyongyang Broadcasting Service)
Pyongyang Broadcasting Service asserted on October 30 that South Korean politicians should bear in mind that their future as politicians is non-existent if they violate the spirit of the June 15th joint declaration on self-reliant reunification of the peninsula, regardless of the party to which the politicians belong.
