Kim Jong Il, accompanied by Kim Yong Chun, Hyon Chol Hae and Park Jae Kyong, paid an inspection visit to KPA unit 2734 (date unreported) and ordered soldiers to beef up combat capabilities. He also visited a duck farm in Ryongji newly built by KPA soldiers (date unreported) and stressed the importance of modernizing livestock farming. (Oct. 6, Oct. 10, Central Broadcasting Station)

On the occasion of the WPK founding day on Oct. 10, Rodong Sinmun asserted, "When tens of thousands of soldiers and people unite to support the leadership of the revolution, with the comradeship of the Songun Revolution, the Wokers’ Party of Korea will remain invincible.“ (Oct. 10, Central Broadcasting Station)

International Issues

A foreign ministry spokesperson denounced Washington for the U.S. Senate’s passing of the North Korean Human Rights Act, saying, "The more the U.S. tries to eradicate our system, the greater the hostility of our people and military will be towards the U.S.” (Oct. 5, Central Broadcasting Station)

The Central Broadcasting Station propagandized on the occasion of the 55th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the DPRK and China on Oct. 6, "the friendly ties between the DPRK and China that have been developed by our Great Leader Kim Il Sung and leaders in China are flourishing generation after generation.”

Inter-Korean Issues

Rodong Sinmun condemned Seoul in its on Oct. 5 editorial titled “Anti-National Behavior Escalates Stand-Off,” stating that "the South Korean authorities are raising a hue and cry over North Korea’s importation of sodium cyanide manufactured by South Korean companies via third countries.”

A spokesperson for the National Environmental Protection Ministry incited the South Korean people, saying, "South Koreans of all walks of life should join the struggle to stop the South Korean authorities’ attempt to register the DMZ as a world heritage site and establish it as an international tourism zone, which represents a betrayal of the nation.” (Oct. 6, Central Broadcasting Station)
