Kim Jong Il sent a congratulatory message to key leaders in China on the occasion of the 55th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China. Accompanied by Park Pong Ju and Kim Young Chun, he also attended a concert by the visiting Shanghai Juvenile Art Troupe of China on Oct. 3. (Oct. 1, Oct. 3, Central Broadcasting Station)
Pyongyang Broadcasting Service reported on Oct. 3 that "on the occasion of the 10th anniversary of the restoration of the tomb of Dangun, the mythical founder of Korea, this year’s National Foundation Day rally took place in front of Dangun Tomb on Oct. 3, and was attended by Kim Young Dae, Chairperson of the Council for National Reconciliation.”
International Issues
The Central Broadcasting Station denounced Washington on Oct. 2, saying, "By taking issue with the alleged human rights situation in the DPRK, which is entirely unfounded, Washington is trying to escalate tensions between the DPRK and the U.S. to ignite a war against the DPRK by politicizing the so-called human rights issue in the international community, which will create further pressure on the DPRK.”
The Central Broadcasting Station voiced criticism of Tokyo on Oct.3, saying, "While Japan takes steps to maintain its Self-Defense Forces’ overseas operations for a prolonged time as part of its measures to realize its overseas expansion, the Japanese government has made another decision on Sept. 29 to extend the timeline for the maritime Self-Defense Forces’ stationing in the Arabian Sea under the pretext of supporting the U.S.’ counterterrorism campaign.”
Inter-Korean Issues
The Committee for the Peaceful Reunification of the Fatherland criticized Seoul, saying, "The South Korean military authorities’ propaganda that it will dispatch special forces to Iraq is aimed at provoking the DPRK. In so doing, Seoul has proved itself an accomplice in the U.S.’ attempt to wage a war of aggression against the DPRK." (Sept. 28, Central Broadcasting Station)
A spokesperson for the Committee for the Peaceful Reunification of the Fatherland insisted that "without truth-finding regarding the nuclear test conducted in South Korea, we cannot expect any advancement in inter-Korean relations. (Oct. 3, Central Broadcasting Station)
