Pyongyang Streets Being Face-lifted

Korean Central News Agency of DPRK

Pyongyang, October 28 (KCNA) -- Major streets of Pyongyang, the capital of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea, have been face-lifted this year following the reconstruction of Yonggwang Street completed before the 55th birthday of the DPRK last year. The reconstruction of streets is being carried on in the way of keeping the architectural styles of the old buildings as they are and decorating outer walls and verandas to be blended with the formation of streets. Outdated substructure facilities are being changed with new ones and bathrooms rebuilt in each flat. Public service buildings are being constructed in round, vault, flat and zigzag shapes and tiled in different colors. Pavements have been laid with colorful blocks with various patterns.
The project of plastering the outer walls of apartments for more than 8,000 families in Sungri, Chilsongmun, Kaesonmun and Podunamu streets has already been finished and the work of painting them is going on at the final stage.
Such projects are being carried on in Pipha, Yongung, Hyoksin and Moranbong streets, too.
Meanwhile, the design to face-lift ten other streets is being worked out.
