Inside North Korea
Kim Jong Il met with Sergei Mikhailovich Mironov, chairman of the Federation Council of Russia, on Sept.13, and watched a concert of the Russian Army Academic Song and Dance Ensemble (date unreported). Accompanied by Pak Pong Ju, Yon Hyong Muk, Ri Myong Su and Pak Jae Kyong, he also attended an event to appreciate grains producing large crops (date unreported). The Central Broadcasting Station stressed in its editorial titled "Koguryo was the Thousand Year-Long Kingdom, a Part of Our Proud History" on Sept. 13, "Koguryo was the strongest kingdom in our national history, which played a leading role in the advancement of the history of the three-kingdom era. Koguryo, the powerful thousand-year long kingdom, will remain as a part of Choson people's proud history."
International Issues
Rodong Sinmun said in its editorial titled "The DPRK and Japan are Both Obliged to Implement the Pyongyang Declaration"(date unreported), "the most urgent issue in the DPRK-Japan relations is Japan's redressing of its past wrongdoings, which will dictate the prospects of bilateral relations between Pyongyang and Tokyo. Therefore, the two nations must faithfully implement the Pyongyang Declaration until it bears fruitful results." (Sept.17, Central Broadcasting Station)
A foreign ministry spokesperson insisted regarding the Annual Report on International Religious Freedom issued by the U.S., "The U.S. State Department issued a so-called annual report on international religious freedom on Sept. 15, taking issues with the status of religious freedom in the DPRK. On the contrary, however, in the DPRK, religious freedom and activities are completely guaranteed by the law and fully ensured by the state. "
Inter-Korean Issues
Pyongyang Broadcast Service propagandized on Sept. 14, "When all Korean people in the North, the South and overseas form a strong unity under the banner of the national cooperation to further momentum of anti-US struggle, we will be able to see a new era of peace and national reunification."
The Committee for the Peaceful Reunification of the Fatherland said "Unless the National Security Law of the South is completely repealed, there is neither freedom guaranteed for patriotic activities toward reunification, nor advancement of inter-Korean relations and national reconciliation."
