Inside North Korea

A national meeting celebrating the 56th anniversary of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea was held at the April 25 House of Culture on Sept. 8. The meeting was attended by senior party, state and army officials.

The Central Broadcasting Station propagandized on Sept. 12, "Comrade Kim Jong Il met with Chinese party and government delegation led by Li Changchun, member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, who were on their official goodwill visit to the DPRK on the occasion of the 55th anniversary of diplomatic ties between the DPRK and China."

International Issues

A foreign ministry spokesperson criticized Seoul in its press conference on Sept. 11 with KCNA regarding the so-called nuclear-related secret experiments recently disclosed in South Korea, "South Korea's clandestine experiment of uranium enrichment is clearly of the military nature. Therefore we cannot help but link the case to resuming the six-way talks."

The Central Broadcasting TV Station reported on Sept. 12 that when Li Changchun, the Chinese chief delegate, met with premier Pak Pong Ju on Sept. 11, he said that China would provide aid(size unreported) to North Korea.

Inter-Korean Issues

A spokesperson for the Central Committee of the DPRK Confederation of Trade Unions, "one's view and position on the repeal of the National Security Law is a critical measure that shows whether one is patriotic or not, and advocates unification or not. Those who are against the abolition of the National Security Law shall not be able to put their feet in the territory of the DPRK including in Mt. Geumgang (Sept. 9, Central Broadcasting Station).

Foreign media reported on Sept. 12, "A massive explosion occurred in Kim Hyong Jik County, Yangyang Province in North Korea on Sept. 9, according to a source in Beijing."
