Inside North Korea

The Presidium of the Supreme People's Assembly announced resolution no. 22 on real estate-related provisions for the Gaesong Industrial District, which was adopted on July 29, 2004. (Aug. 25, Pyongyang Broadcasting Service)

Rodong Sinmun said in its editorial titled "It is the Greatest Pride of the KPA and our people to Successfully Succeed to the Great Songun Tradition" (dated Aug. 27), "The greatest principle expounded by our great leader says that it is Chongdae (armed forces) that produce, strengthen and enable all good achievements of the revolution." (Aug. 27, Central Broadcasting Station)

International Issues

The Central Broadcasting Station (Aug. 27) criticized Washington in its editorial titled "The U.S.' Dangerous Move to Relocate its Armed Forces Based on a Preemptive Strike Scheme" by saying, "The U.S.' plan to relocate its forces stationed overseas is a criminal step toward realization of its ambition of achieving world hegemony, which is a cause of great concern in the international community."

Rodong Sinmun said in its editorial titled "Japan Should Redress its Sinful Past" (date unreported), "The hostile relations between the DPRK and Japan remain unresolved and the two nations are still regarded as very close yet distant nations. All of this is attributable to Tokyo's reluctance to redress its past. Therefore, Japan should take steps to redress its past wrongdoings in the spirit of the DPRK-Japan Pyongyang Declaration." (Aug. 29, Pyongyang Broadcasting Service)

Inter-Korean Issues

Pyongyang Broadcasting Service insisted on Aug. 25 that "to envision national unification with the U.S. imperialist still remaining in the South is as foolish as trying to put little rabbits to sleep while allowing a ferocious wolf to stay in the very next room."

The Committee for the Peaceful Reunification of the Fatherland denounced the Grand National Party of South Korea, saying, "The GNP's objection to the abrogation of the National Security Law is 'the sophistry of a crazed dog.'" It also went on to criticize the GNP by saying "the GNP is attempting to use the issue of truth-finding regarding suspicious deaths to fuel the standoff between pro-North Korea, pro-Communist forces and those who advocate free democracy." (Aug. 27, Aug. 28, Central Broadcasting Station)
