Pyongyang, August 15 (KCNA) -- Kim Jong Il, chairman of the National Defence Commission of the DPRK, received a message of greetings from V. V. Putin, president of the Russian Federation, on Sunday on the occasion of the 59th anniversary of the liberation of Korea.
The message says:
I extend congratulations to you on the occasion of the liberation day, holiday of the entire Korean nation.
The liberation of the country achieved by the heroic struggle of the Korean people was an important landmark in the state history of Korea.
The relations of good neighborliness, friendship and equal cooperation between the two countries have since been provided and developed and were consolidated by the 2000 treaty.
These principles are urgent at the present time when the Russia-DPRK relations favorably develop under the new condition and cooperation between us is deepening in the international arena including the solution of the nuclear issue on the Korean peninsula.
We highly appreciate and support the inter-Korean dialogue which is the most important condition for a fair solution to the issue of the Korean peninsula in conformity with the interests of the Korean people and consolidation of peace and security in Asia and the efforts for reconciliation and national unity.
I wish you good health and new success in your activities and the friendly Korean people happiness and well-being.
