North Korea Weekly (July 19 - July 25, 2004)
Inside North Korea
The Central Broadcasting Station propagandized on July 20, "One of the most significant reasons the Workers' Party of Korea places great importance on science and technology, along with ideology and Chongdae (military capability), which constitute the three pillars of building a strong nation, is that when the revolutionary ideology of the DPRK is combined with the latest science and technology, we can beat any strong enemy and maintain our national sovereignty." |
|
The Central Broadcasting Station insisted on July 21 that "imagining a revolutionary victory without our dear Leader is like imagining flowers blossoming without the sun. Therefore, the spirit of defending our Leader even at the cost of one's life should be valued as one of the greatest traditions of the DPRK revolution and thus should be handed down to generation after generation." |
International Issues
Rodong Sinmun stressed on July 22 that "recently, the U.S. has been significantly strengthening their readiness for a war on the DPRK by developing super high-speed missiles capable of penetrating underground, targeting our underground military facilities. Given these circumstances, we cannot help but beef up our military self-defense capabilities, resorting to all means available." (July 22, Central Broadcasting Station) |

A foreign ministry spokesperson criticized Washington, saying, "The forward-looking proposal the U.S. made in the third round of the six-way talks is not worth any deliberation, for it is the same approach the U.S. took when the U.S. demanded that Libya dismantle its nuclear arms. The key to success in resolving the nuclear issue, therefore, lies in whether the U.S. will participate in providing compensation for the DPRK's nuclear freeze." (July 24, Central Broadcasting Station) |
Inter-Korean Issues
The Committee for the Peaceful Reunification of the Fatherland and Rodong Sinmun denounced Seoul on July 22, saying, "We will definitely hold the South's Grand National Party and its floor leader accountable for their senseless and groundless remarks regarding the alleged intrusion of a North Korean patrol boat in the South, a story concocted by the South Korean military to sway public opinion." (July 22, Pyongyang Broadcasting Service) |
|
The Central Broadcasting Station propagandized on July 24, "to oppose the abrogation of the National Security Law, which defines North Korea as an enemy rather than a party with which to achieve national reconciliation and unification, is to impede the unification of the two Koreas while negating the June 15 North-South Joint Declaration. Therefore, people of all walks of life in South Korea should be engaged more actively in the struggle to repeal the fascist anti-unification law." |
