  • US / NORTH KOREA / FOOD VOA 23 Jul 2004 -- The United States Friday said it is donating 50-thousand metric tons of food to North Korea in response to an appeal by the U.N.'s World Food Program. U.S. officials say the decision is unrelated to ongoing talks on North Korea's nuclear program.
  • Speedy North Korean Nuclear Dismantlement Possible, Bolton Says Washington File 23 Jul 2004 -- A speedy dismantlement of North Korea's nuclear weapons program is possible if the Pyongyang regime makes the decision to do so, says John R. Bolton, under secretary of state for arms control and international security.

Undersecretary of State John Bolton has just wrapped up a trip to South Korea and Japan to coordinate policies on efforts to end the North's nuclear programs.
  • KOREA/ REFUGEES VOA 23 Jul 2004 -- More than 400 North Korean refugees are expected to arrive in South Korea next week. Officials at Seoul's Unification Ministry say the North Koreans traveled from their impoverished homeland to China, and from there to an unnamed Asian country.
