Kim Jong Il, accompanied by KPA generals Ri Myong Su, Hyon Chol Hae and Pak Jae Kyong, paid an inspection visit to the large combined unit of the KPA (date unreported) and ordered soldiers to beef up combat capability. (June 23, Central Broadcasting Station)

Marking the 54th year of the outbreak of the Korean War, the "June 25 Pyongyang Citizens' Anti-U.S. Rally" was held in Pyongyang, and approximately 1 million citizens participated, resolving to seek bloody revenge on the U.S. (June 25, Central Broadcasting Station)

International Issues

Rodong Sinmun insisted on June 23 that "if the U.S. continues to stick to its old senseless unilateral demands in the third round of the six-way talks, we cannot expect any positive results from the talks." (June 23, Pyongyang Broadcasting Service)

Pyongyang Broadcasting Service asserted on June 27, "Given that one cannot win a war with nuclear weapons alone, the Bush gang is making a big mistake by attempting to stifle the DPRK and force it to surrender to the U.S with its nuclear threats. If the U.S. imperialist underestimates the force of our arms and goes ahead with its strategy to launch preemptive nuclear strikes against us, they are bound to face irreparable defeat and death."

Inter-Korean Issues

Pyongyang Broadcasting Service denounced Chosun Ilbo, a South Korean daily newspaper, on June 24 by saying, "Chosun Ilbo slandered the International Symposium marking the 4th anniversary of the June 15 Joint Declaration held recently in Seoul, saying that it was directed and instigated by the North. If Chosun Ilbo continues to make such senseless and outrageous claims, taking a pro-U.S. and anti-DPRK stance, it will suffer the grave consequences of history"

The Committee for the Peaceful Reunification of the Fatherland commented on the recent execution of South Korean hostage Kim Seon Il by Iraqi militants, saying, "In order to put an end to such an anti-humanitarian crimes involving the ruthless slaying of innocent citizens in Iraq, the U.S.' forcible military occupation and rule of Iraq must be put to an end."
