Kim Jong Il, accompanied by KPA Generals Ri Myong Su, Hyon Chol Hae and Pak Jae Gyong, paid inspection visits to KPA units 952, 769 and 573 (date unreported), and stressed the importance of beefing up combat capabilities and ideological education (June 10,11,13, Central Broadcasting Station). The Central Broadcasting Station propagandized on June 7, "On the occasion of the 40th anniversary of Comrade Kim Jong Il's joining the WPK Central Committee, some 2000 workers and members of the National Youth Union embarked on a pilgrimage to Kim Jong Il's birthplace in Paektu Milyong (secret camp), Mt. Paektu. Officials and members of the Korean Democratic Women's Union (KDWU) also held a meeting to pledge their loyalty to leader Kim Jong Il in Paektu Milyong." |

Rodong Sinmun propagandized in its editorial dated June 13, "The spirit of defending our Leader at the cost of one's life is the supreme expression of comradeship and should be handed down by revolutionary fighters generation after generation. In all circumstances, even if the earth tumbles down, we should stay faithful in our allegiance to the leader of the revolution." (June 13, Central Broadcasting Station) |
International Issues
Rodong Sinmun argued in its editorial titled "Our Nuclear Deterrents Are Urgently Called For" on June 7, "As the U.S. carried out a criminal sub-critical nuclear test at the Nevada underground nuclear test site on May 25, non-nuclear states must take firm measures to counter the nuclear threats and nuclear war efforts of the U.S." (June 7, Pyongyang Broadcasting Service) |

The Pyongyang Broadcasting Service criticized Tokyo on June 8, saying, "The Japanese House of Representatives' reactionary move to pass a bill banning the entry of specified foreign ships represents a senseless act on the part of those who do not welcome the DPRK-Japan summit talks and results." |
Inter-Korean Issues
The Committee for the Peaceful Reunification of the Fatherland denounced Seoul, saying, "The South Korean Defense Minister made an outrageous remark at the 3rd Asian Security Conference on June 5 that the development of weapons of mass destruction by a certain party poses a serious threat to peace in Northeast Asia as well as on the Korean peninsula. This is an unpardonable remark that throws a wet blanket on inter-Korean relations, returning them to the old era of distrust, confrontation and hostility." (June 9, Central Broadcasting Station) |

The KPA Navy Command slandered and criticized Seoul by saying, "Recently, as South Korean forces have been intentionally escalating tensions in the West Sea, we have sternly warned them that such military provocations can trigger another naval skirmish in the West Sea and that they should understand the grave consequences of such military provocations."
