Kim Jong Il Gives Field Guidance to Kusong Machine Tool Plant

Korean Central News Agency of DPRK

Pyongyang, June 1 (KCNA) -- Kim Jong Il, general secretary of the Workers' Party of Korea and chairman of the DPRK National Defence Commission, gave field guidance to the Kusong Machine Tool Plant. He was accompanied by Pak Pong Ju, premier of the Cabinet, Kim Yong Chun, chief of the General Staff of the Korean People's Army, Kim Il Chol, minister of the People's Armed Forces, Pak Nam Gi, Ju Kyu Chang, KPA Generals Hyon Chol Hae and Pak Jae Gyong and Kim Phyong Hae, chief secretary of the North Phyongan Provincial Committee of the WPK.
The workers of the plant have brought about a signal turn in the technical reconstruction and modernization of the plant and successfully manufactured many latest machine tools through a vigorous drive to thoroughly carry out the honorable task given by Kim Jong Il to the plant when he visited it in May two years ago.
He first looked round the on-the-spot teachings board of President Kim Il Sung standing in the compound of the plant.
Looking back with deep emotion on the glorious path of development covered by the plant, he noted that under the wise leadership of the President and his meticulous care the plant could turn into a leading machine-building center and his immortal revolutionary feats would always shine with its history.
He learned in detail about the progress of the technical reconstruction and modernization and production at the plant, going round the machine-tool repair shop, casting, processing and assembling shops and other production processes.
Watching workers at work, he encouraged them in their labor drive. He was greatly satisfied to learn that the appearance of the plant has undergone a radical change as required by the new times.
He highly praised the officials, workers and technicians of the plant for their achievements made in the drive, noting that they have done a lot of work as evidenced by the great progress made in putting the plant on a modern and scientific basis in a matter of two years.
Going round the compound of the plant under various species of trees and workshops kept neat and tidy, he was greatly pleased to see a high-level of cultured practices in production and life.
He set forth important tasks to be fulfilled by the plant, saying that the plant has a very important duty and role to perform in making the national economy more Juche-oriented, modern and scientific.
He said the workers of the plant have worked hard to develop science and technology, giving priority to this work, thus successfully playing the role of a pace-setter in developing the country's machine building industry on a new higher stage, calling on all the fields and units to actively follow their example.
He underscored the need to continue energetically pushing forward the work to make products highspeed, precision and scientific and steadily raise the level of technical skill of the workers in order to increase the production of highly efficient modern machine tools.
He underlined the need for the plant to attain a higher goal to manufacture ultramodern machine tools now that it has successfully completed the technical reconstruction and modernization in a few years and indicated specific tasks and ways to do so.
It is very gratifying that this plant has abided by the principle of profitability, he said, calling for minutely organizing the economic performance to meet the needs of the socialist method of industrial management and intensifying the ideological education among producers to thoroughly ensure profitability in production. He also stressed the need to raise the level of guidance by the officials guiding economy and increase the role of scientists and technicians.
He expressed great expectation and confidence that the workers of the plant, who grew stronger while breaking through all sorts of trials during the "Arduous March," forced march, would as ever creditably perform the role of a shock brigade in carrying out the technical revolution of the Party.
