The Central Broadcasting Station claimed on May 6, "Our national pride has peaked in the era of Comrade Kim Jong Il. With comrade Kim Jong Il, we are confident that we will always be invincible. Our national pride is such that the U.S. imperialist's anti-DPRK maneuver will not stand." |
International Issues
A spokesperson for the Committee for the Peaceful Reunification of the Fatherland issued a statement criticizing Washington: "The U.S.' recent announcement of its plan to deploy Aegis and Patriot missiles in and around South Korea within this year is a grave military provocation against the DPRK and a dangerous arms build-up." Pyongyang Broadcasting Station said on May 7, "Japanese reactionaries have decided to share their radar defense data with the U.S. under the pretext of the alleged missile threat from the DPRK. In so doing, the Japanese reactionaries clearly show their true intention to join forces with Washington to mount a preemptive strike against the DPRK." |
Inter-Korean Issues
In its report about the 14th inter-Korean ministerial talks on May 5, the Central Broadcasting Station reported the statement made by the North only, saying "In the 14th inter-Korean ministerial talks, our chief delegate pointed out in his keynote speech that the joint military exercises carried out by the South and the U.S. are one of the main factors that escalate tensions on the Korean peninsula as well as jeopardize inter-Korean relations." |

A spokesperson for the Committee for the Peaceful Reunification of the Fatherland issued a statement saying, "Unless the group of South Korean national assemblymen who proposed the motion for the presidential impeachment apologize for their recent remarks in which they malignantly slandered the DPRK for the accident at Ryongchon Railway Station, we will never deal with the political parties they belong to." The spokesperson also assailed the South Korean prosecution authorities for sentencing Min Kyoun U, secretary general of the Reunification Solidarity, to 10 years in prison, saying, "The South Korean prosecution made an unpardonable and outrageous move by sentencing Min Kyoung U based on the National Security Law, which is a deliberate act to stamp out patriotic forces for reunification in South Korea."
