Kim Jong Il Enjoys Performance Given by KPA Officers' Families

    Pyongyang, May 15 (KCNA) -- Supreme Commander of the Korean People's Army Kim Jong Il, general secretary of the Workers' Party of Korea and chairman of the National Defence Commission of the DPRK, together with KPA servicepersons saw a performance given by art groups of families of officers of KPA units 630, 604, 233, 966 and 337 and the Air Force Command who participated in the 7th contest among art groups of families of KPA officers. Among the audience were Kim Yong Chun, chief of the KPA General Staff, KPA Generals Ri Myong Su, Hyon Chol Hae, Pak Jae Gyong, Col. General O Kum Chol and other general officers, Ri Yong Chol, first vice-department director of the WPK Central Committee, and Ri Jae Il, first vice-director of the Information and Agitation Department of the WPK Central Committee.
    The performers put on the stage numbers of diverse genres including chorus "Thanks to Generalissimo Kim Il Sung" and "Twelve months for Songun victory", a duet to the accompaniment of Kayagum, a poetical drama based on true story, a quintet drama and singing and instrumental music.
    Kim Jong Il extended high appreciation and deep thanks to the members of the art groups for their successful performance, greatly satisfied with their presentation of the repertoire of high ideological and artistic value as it truthfully represented their life.
    He repeatedly spoke highly of their feats, saying that the families of the KPA officers are praiseworthy revolutionary fighters as they tided over all sorts of trials and took the lead in upholding the Songun cause of the WPK, loudly singing songs of revolution and struggle in the period of the "arduous march," forced march, the most difficult days for the country.
    The contest among art groups of officers' families that has been held seven times amidst the great expectation and interest of the servicepersons and the people strikingly demonstrated the validity and vitality of the WPK's literary and art policy to popularize arts and the shining feature of new culture created in the Songun era, he said.
    He set forth important tasks which would serve as guidelines in conducting popular art activities, saying that the contest, a product of the Songun era, serves as an important factor of powerfully encouraging all the people in their struggle to accomplish the cause of building a great prosperous powerful nation for its tremendous vitality.
