New School Year Starts in DPRK

Pyongyang, April 1 (KCNA) -- The new school year has begun Thursday in the Democratic People's Republic of Korea.
Opening ceremonies were held at all schools throughout the country including Kim Il Sung University, Kim Song Ju Primary School, Pyongyang Middle School No. 1.
The ceremony places were decorated with streamers welcoming the newcomers and colorful flowers.
Teachers, pupils, students and parents threw confetti over them when the newcomers were entering schools.
Reports and speeches were made at the ceremonies.
The speakers said that leader Kim Jong Il had steadily shown deep care for the development of education though the economic situation of the country was still difficult.
They called on the pupils and students to study hard to prepare themselves as reliable pillars of the country under the slogan "Let's learn for Korea", true to the lofty intention of Kim Jong Il.
The ceremonies were followed by first lessons.
