Inside North Korea
Kim Jong Il toured the Kyenam stock farm in South Hwanghae Province, accompanied by the first vice department director of the C.C., the WPK Ri Yong Chol and Generals of the Korean People's Army Ri Myong Su, Hyon Chol Hae and Pak Jae Gyong. He expressed great satisfaction with the modernization of the farm and ordered the workers to strengthen its capacity for agricultural production. (Dec. 29, Central Broadcasting Station). |

Leading newspapers of the DPRK, Rodong Sinmun, Josoninmingun and Chongnyonjonwi issued a joint editorial on Jan. 1 saying, "Let's glorify this year as a year of proud victory through revolutionary offensives on all fronts, by building a great prosperous powerful nation under the Party's leadership." The Central Broadcasting Station reported on Jan. 1, "On the occasion of the New Year's day, senior officials of the party, the state and the army visited the Kumsusan Memorial Palace to pay tribute to the late President Kim Il Sung. Secretaries of the Youth Alliance and officials of the KPA pledged their allegiance to Kim Jong Il, while young students had a New Year's gathering at the Mangyongdae Youth Palace." |
International Issues
The Central Broadcasting Station reported on Dec. 29, "The U.S. government decided to offer 60,000 tons of food to the DPRK through the WFP on December 24. This is the remainder of the 100,000 tons of food which the U.S., urged by the WFP, promised on Feb. 23 to donate to the DPRK in 2003." |

The Central Broadcasting Station denounced Japan on Jan. 3, saying, "It is unprecedented for Japan's chief of state to visit the Yasukuni shrine on Jan. 1 and pay homage to the departed soul of militarists. It indicates that Tokyo is persistently pursuing its attempt to revive militarism." |

The Central Broadcasting Station reported on Jan. 2, "Cattle disease and bird flu epidemics wreak great havoc on South Korea." |

The Central Broadcasting Station said on Jan. 3, quoting the so-called "New Year's Message to all Koreans" of the Democratic National United Front Broadcasting, a malicious anti-South propaganda media outlet, "All Koreans should join the struggle to disband the Grand National Party (GNP) and hold the upcoming general elections in the absence of the GNP. All people should no longer accept the U.S. and its followers' attempt to intervene in inter-Korean relations and make concerted efforts to make significant progress in implementing the June 15 North-South Joint Declaration." |
