Five-thousand-year-long History of Nation, Pride of Korean People

Pyongyang, January 25 (KCNA) -- The Korean people are a proud nation that has a time-honored history and excellent traditions with which to exalt the Korean nation-first spirit, says Rodong Sinmun today in a signed article.

The Korean people are a proud nation that has made a long history and brilliant culture, living in the same territory as a homogeneous nation from ancient times. The history of the Korean nation with Tangun with as its ancestral father is spanning more than five thousand years. Tangun, the founder-father of Korea, chose the then Walled City of Pyongyang (Pyongyang at present) as a capital and declared the birth of the country and named it "Korea." With the foundation of Tangun Korea the Koreans were the first to usher in the era of the state and civilization in the East.
The five-thousand-year-long history of the Korean nation can be described as a history of struggle during which it has courageously fought against foreign aggressors.
The foreign aggressors had incessantly invaded Korea up to date from ancient times. Whenever the aggressors committed invasion, however, the Koreans turned out as one in a sacred fight to defend the country from the invasion.
The aggressors failed to break patriotism and bravery of the Koreans and bring them to their knees.
The five-thousand-year-long history of the Korean nation can also be termed a proud history of creation in which it brought into full bloom and developed the brilliant culture of the nation.
The Korean people are a resourceful and civilized nation that has brought into full bloom the culture of the East and made great contributions to the development of culture of humankind from ancient times. They have created numerous excellent wealths in science, technology, literature and arts.
Today in the DPRK the advantageous national character of the Korean nation has been carried forward and developed on a high level under the wise guidance of Kim Jong Il, the incarnation of patriotism. The traditions and customs of the Korean nation have been preserved and developed in all aspects of social life and the spirit and soul of the nation are prevalent in literary and art works, edifices, the dressing up and etiquette.
It is only too natural for all the Koreans to be proud of their history.
No force on earth can be a match for the concerted efforts of the 70 million Koreans who get united with the pride and confidence in the advantages of the nation.
