NK to Resume Mt. Geumgang Tour

North Korea will allow visits to Mount Geumgang by South Korean tourists to resume early next month, the North's Asia-Pacific Peace Committee said on Thursday (May 29).
In a statement broadcast by Radio Pyongyang, a spokesman for the committee said the North had taken into account repeated requests from Hyundai Asan Co. to resume operations of seaborne tours to the mountain in its decision to resume the tours.
Hyundai, the South Korean operator of the project, has been spearheading several inter-Korean economic projects.
The tours came to a halt last month as Pyongyang suspended visits by South Koreans and other foreigners due to concerns over the outbreak of severe acute respiratory syndrome in the region.
The spokesman also said the committee hopes to hold talks with Hyundai Asan Chairman Chung Mong-hun and the company's President Kim Yoon-kyu at an early date to discuss overland visits to the mountain due in July, as well as other issues.
