Adherence to principle of Songun called for

Pyongyang, May 29 (KCNA) -- The DPRK is pushing forward the revolution and construction its own way according to its own idea and faith under the uplifted banner of independence despite the imperialists' moves to stifle it because it has firmly abided by the principle of Songun in politics, says Rodong Sinmun today in a signed article.

The principle of Songun is the most revolutionary and just one as it makes it possible for a country and a nation to protect its sovereignty, reliably guarantee it and advance the revolution and construction its own way to meet the specific conditions of the country.
Nothing is more foolish an idea than to expect any mercy from the imperialists as they have been militarized to the maximum and are desperately working to dominate the world, brandishing even nuclear weapons, overconfident of their strength.
The lesson drawn from the disturbing developments on the international arena today teaches that a step of concession and compromise with the imperialists would bring a war and disaster.
The only way of protecting the sovereignty and the dignity of the country in face of the imperialists' high-handed and arbitrary practices is to increase the military power. It is possible for a nation to defend its right to existence and sovereignty only when it has a military deterrent force strong enough to contain the imperialists' aggression.
In order to firmly maintain independence in politics it is necessary to increase the political and ideological potentials the core of which is military power.
Only when an army remains strong is it possible to build up its politico-ideological might and economic potential and achieve victory and prosperity in reliance on the revolutionary army despite manifold difficulties in the way of the revolution and construction.
One needs not to read other's face but can meet other's pressure when one has a strong military force.
The army and the people of the DPRK will surely build a great prosperous socialist power which will demonstrate the might of Songun under the leadership of Kim Jong Il, the article concludes.
