Anniversary of three principles of national reunification marked
KCNA
Pyongyang, May 3 (KCNA) -- On May 3, Juche 61 (1972) President Kim Il Sung clarified the three principles of national reunification when meeting a delegate of the south side to the north-south high-level political talks who was staying here for the talks.
Rodong Sinmun today dedicates a signed article to this day.
The clarification of the three principles of national reunification marked a historic event as they made it possible for the Korean nation's reunification movement to advance along the road indicated by correct ideological and theoretical guidelines and emerge victorious, the article says, and continues:
The national reunification is the Korean nation's own issue related to its sovereignty and, therefore, it should be responsible for reunifying the country by its own efforts to meet its independent requirement and will.
The principle of peaceful reunification which calls for reunifying the country in a peaceful way without a recourse to force indicated a fundamental way of solving the country's reunification issue as required by the whole Korean nation.
There is no ground for the Koreans to fight each other over the reunification issue. The differing ideas and systems existing in the north and the south can never be a source of a war. The cause of national reunification is, in essence, one of relinking the severed blood ties of the nation and achieving national unity.
Only when the north and the south work together to reunify the country by their concerted efforts, placing the common denominators and common interests of the nation above anything else, can they achieve national reunification irrespective of idea and system.
The three principles of national reunification serve as a great reunification programme common to the nation as they indicate the way of solving the reunification issue most smoothly and reasonably according to the Korean nation's unanimous wish and will for reunification.
