Chinese President meets Jo Myong Rok

    Beijing, April 22 (KCNA) -- Hu Jintao, General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China and President of the People's Republic of China, received Jo Myong Rok, first-vice chairman of the National Defence Commission of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea, on a visit to China, at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing on April 22. Referring to the traditional friendship between the two parties and the two peoples of china and the DPRK, the president said that the Sino-Korean friendship, forged and developed by Chairman Mao Zedong, Premier Zhou Enlai, Deng Xiaoping and President Kim Il Sung, has been deeply rooted in the hearts of the two peoples.
    He went on:
    General Secretary Kim Jong Il visited China twice in recent years and President Jiang Zemin, too, visited the DPRK.
    The two supreme leaders reached unanimity of views on further developing Sino-Korean good neighborly and friendly cooperative relations and confirmed the orientation of developing the bilateral relations in the new century.
    We are happy that the both sides have maintained the tradition of high-level visit exchanges and negotiated and exchanged views on major issues.
    It coincides with the fundamental interests of the two peoples and is beneficial to regional peace, stability and development to further the traditional friendship under the present international situation.
    The CPC and Chinese government treasure the traditional friendship with the DPRK. We are willing to further the friendly relations with the DPRK comrades.
    The Korean people have overcome numerous difficulties in the revolutionary spirit of self-reliance and fortitude and achieved great successes in the economic construction, the cause of national reunification and the field of external affairs under the leadership of the Workers' Party of Korea headed by Kim Jong Il.
    We are rejoiced over this and sincerely wish the Korean people greater success in socialist construction under the leadership of Kim Jong Il and the WPK.
    On hand were general of the Korean People's Army Pak Jae Gyong and KPA col. general Pak Sung Won, DPRK Ambassador to China Choe Jin Su and other suite members.
    Present there were col. general Guo Boxiong, vice-chairman of the Central Military Commission of the CPC and the Central Military Commission of the PRC, col. general Xu Caihou, member of the Central Military Commissions of the CPC and the PRC and director of the general political department of the Chinese People's Liberation Army, col. general Xiong Guangkai, deputy chief of the general staff of the CPLA, Wong Yi, vice-Minister of Foreign Affairs, and other officials concerned.
    The talks proceeded in a cordial and friendly atmosphere.
