Joint U.S.-S. Korea military exercises under fire

KCNA

Pyongyang, March 7 (KCNA) -- Co-chairmen of the headquarters of the Movement against the U.S. and War and for the Conclusion of a DPRK-U.S. Non-Aggression Treaty in South Korea reportedly issued a statement on March 4 denouncing the "Foal Eagle" and "Rsoi" jointly started by U.S. and South Korean troops. It termed them dangerous war moves that may create a touch-and-go situation on the Korean Peninsula and war drills under the simulated conditions of an actual war against the north in view of their scale, nature and the prevailing situation. The exercises involving over 200,000 troops and military hardware include a large-scale landing operation and the "Rsoi," in particular, is based on the "operation plan 5027-98" aimed at a preemptive attack on the north and the occupation of Pyongyang, the statement noted, and went on:
The U.S. is watching for a chance to ignite a war on the Korean Peninsula. This is not the land which will allow the U.S. to stage a war so as to meet its own interests and, if it thinks so, it is grossly mistaken.
The South Korean and U.S. military authorities should stop at once the exercises that may bring a nuclear holocaust to the Korean Peninsula.
The Korean nation will no longer remain a passive onlooker to the U.S. moves to hamstring the nation's reconciliation and unity and ignite a nuclear war.
