Pyongyang, March 4 (KCNA) -- A national meeting jointly held by the north and the south to mark the anniversary of the March 1 Movement, a nation-wide anti-Japanese patriotic resistance, was an eruption of the common desire of all the Koreans to achieve independence, peace and reunification with the concerted efforts of the nation in the spirit of the March 1 Movement.
Rodong Sinmun today says this in a signed commentary.
Under the present situation in which the U.S. imperialists are running amuck to hurt our nation, the March 1 spirit and bid for sovereignty and independence against the outside forces should be intensified, the commentary points out, and goes on:
The March 1 National Meeting reaffirmed that unanimous is the desire of all the Koreans in the north and the south to achieve independence and reunification, the life and soul of the nation, with the joint efforts and struggle of the nation.
Speeches of representatives from the north and the south and the March 1 national declaration adopted at the meeting stressed that the spirit of national independence is the patriotic spirit that our nation should carry forward generation after generation.
At gatherings and rituals attendants expressed their will to pool efforts of our nation itself in the struggle for independence against outside forces.
At a time when a black cloud of a nuclear war is hanging over the head of the nation owing to the U.S. vicious high-handed and arbitrary practices, it is right and natural to all intents and purposes that our fellow countrymen jointly held the March 1 National Meeting and demonstrated their strong will to defend the security and dignity of the nation and achieve independent reunification with united efforts.
National independence against outside force is the national task of the Koreans all the time. Herein lie the security, dignity and reunification of the nation.
It is the spirit and patriotic tradition of our nation that all the fellow countrymen rose up in the patriotic struggle against the outside forces whenever the nation's destiny was endangered by outside forces. It was proved again by the March 1 National Meeting.
