U.S.-proposed "multilateral" talks blasted

Pyongyang, February 5 (KCNA) -- Minju Joson today in a signed commentary accuses bush and high-ranking officials of the U.S. administration of asserting that the nuclear issue on the Korean Peninsula should be settled not through the DPRK-U.S. talks but through "multilateral talks". This assertion is quite wrong as it is neither reasonable nor realistic, the commentary says, and goes on:
The nuclear issue on the Korean Peninsula is a bilateral issue to be settled between the DPRK and the United States from the view-points of its origin, the circumstances of its outbreak, its nature and the truth of the present crisis.
It was not the international community but the United States that brought up the nuclear issue on the Korean Peninsula. A sinister intention is lurking behind the call made by the U.S. for the "multilateral talks," turning aside the proposal for direct talks between the DPRK and the U.S.
The United States is keen to evade its responsibility for the nuclear issue on the Korean Peninsula and create an atmosphere of international pressure on the DPRK at any cost. The U.S.-proposed "multilateral talks" are meant to serve this purpose.
The DPRK has never thought of other form of talks than the DPRK-U.S. direct talks to seek a solution to the nuclear issue and will never participate in such talks.
The U.S. should bear in mind that its persistent efforts to stymie the solution of the nuclear issue on the Korean Peninsula with such a wrong assertion would only make the situation more complicated and bring about unpredictable consequences.
