On Oct. 27, Kim Jong Il sent a wreath for the late Kim Yong Sun, secretary of the Central Committee of the WPK (Worker's Party of Korea), who died on Oct. 26, and expressed deep condolences over his death. On the same day, the Presidium of the Supreme People's Assembly released a decree to award late Kim Yong Sun the title of DPRK Hero, the Gold Star Medal and the Order of the National Flag (1st Class). |

The 18th Central Science and Technology Festival took place from Oct. 27-30. The National Meeting of Scientists and Technicians was also held from Oct. 29-30. |
International Issues
The Central Broadcasting Station stated in its commentary on Oct. 28, "In an effort to prevent the DPRK from trading missiles with other countries, the Bush administration concocted a story about the DPRK's missile trade. As the DPRK is not a member country of the MTCR (Missile Technology Control Regime), it is against the law for the U.S. to sanction the DPRK's commercial trade of missiles." |

The Central Broadcasting Station reported on Oct. 30 that the Chinese state delegation led by Wu Bangguo, the chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress of China, paid an official visit to North Korea from Oct. 29-31. The report said that the Chinese government notified Pyongyang on Oct. 29 of Beijing's decision to provide a grant-type aid to the DPRK and that Kim Jong Il received the Chinese state delegation on Oct. 30. The report also went on to say, "The DPRK expressed its willingness to take part in the future six-way nuclear talks if the talks proceed in the direction of the proposal for a package solution based on the principle of simultaneous actions." |
Inter-Korean Issues
The Central Broadcasting Station propagandized on Oct. 27 while reporting on the closing of the Sports and Cultural Festival for National Reunification and Peace, "the festival displayed that we are one nation, sharing the same will to achieve national reconciliation, unity and reunification. Therefore, nothing will be able to impede us as we move forward together to realize reunification." |

The Central Broadcasting Station reported on Oct 29, "the seventh inter-Korean working level talks on highway and railroad construction were held Oct. 27-28 in Gaesong. Participants of the talks discussed the schedule for supplying construction materials and equipment and adopted an agreement." |
